- ZoneAlarm
- Free firewall. Also has a upgrade version with more features, but
definitely worth the download, even if you don't want to pay for the
Pro version. The latest version (3.0) has added a cookie blocker and
pop-up killer.
- Ad
- aware
- Removes ad-serving and spyware components that are installed when
you use ad-supported software. Be sure to download the RefUpdate, so
that you can easily update the reference files for Ad-aware. (Spyware
programs are notoriously poorly written taking up valuable resources
and commonly crashing your computer.)
- Winzip
- A must for anyone downloading files. If you don't want to use DOS
to unzip files, then get Winzip. There are others, but this one is constantly
updating and getting more enhancements.
- KaZaa
- Great Gnutella Network Tool. I would also recommend the lite version.
- TweakUI
- An unsupported Microsoft program that allows you to tweak many of
your window's settings.
- FTP Voyager
($40)
- Nice intuitive FTP program that can schedule downloads and syncronize
folders. The great thing about it is that it keeps trying to download
files even after it gets errors, like a timeout from the server.
- TopStyle
- This is an absolutely great Cascading Style Sheet editor.
- eNotes
- Intelligent cut and paste utility that is a more effective way to
gather information from the web. eNotes adds four buttons to IE 4 +'s
toolbar.
- HTML-Kit
- Full-featured text editor designed to help HTML, XML and script authors
to edit, format, lookup help, validate, preview and publish web pages.
(I prefer Dreamweaver, but this is an excellent freeware utility.)
- Easy
Thumbnails
- Simple interface that makes thumbnails for your pics. Allows you to
choose the prefix (if any) added to the name and the size.

- Freeware that imports many graphic types and exports quite a few.
Great freeware.
Encryption
- MIT
download page for the latest PGP version.
- The United States Government has placed certain restrictions on the
export of crytographic software, so, if you live outside of the United
States and Canada, you may need to get PGP from the PGPi
Project.
- WebCrypt
Pro ($29.95)
- WebCrypt Pro will successfully encrypt ANY html page, including javascript.
The entire document between the <body> and </body> tags
is fully encrypted, leaving other important information, like meta tags,
intact. Visitors to your site will not be able to find links, e-mail,
graphics, javascript, or any of your code if they choose to view your
source. WebCrypt Pro also includes the same "no right click" feature
you can embed into your pages, as in previous versions.

- Never downloaded it or saw it in action, but is reputed to be a powerful
email client with lots of features.

- Great DVD player that supports DVD menus.
